What the image cleaner removes
Free AI Wiper currently processes JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, GIF and TIFF images directly in your browser. It checks for AI metadata and portable provenance, including C2PA Content Credentials, JUMBF records, XMP fields and generator information where supported by each format.
You can separately choose to remove private metadata such as camera information, GPS coordinates, dates and comments.
What stays unchanged
For supported files, Free AI Wiper copies the encoded image payload rather than decoding and recompressing the pixels. Color profiles and rendering information are preserved unless they contain a selected AI marker.
What a clean result means
A verified result means the output was inspected again and no supported selected traces remained. It does not prove that the image was created by a person, and it cannot guarantee how an external platform will classify the content.
To inspect your own image, follow the step-by-step image guide. For how we scope verification across formats, read our test method.

Clean BMP, animated GIF and TIFF metadata
BMP: the cleaner checks appended bytes after the raster and any embedded color profile. AI-only cleanup removes that appended block when it contains a supported explicit provenance marker; private cleanup removes appended data even when its contents are unrecognized. The block is not a standardized metadata record or a validated signature. Raster bytes, palettes, masks and embedded profiles remain unchanged. Compressed BMP, older OS/2 headers, linked profiles and unsupported profile placement are refused. Appended-data inspection is limited to 4 MiB.
GIF: selected comments, XMP applications and recognized provenance application records can be removed. Frames, graphic controls, delays, disposal, transparency, palettes, plain-text rendering, looping and ICC color applications are retained. Unknown applications are retained unless their payload contains a recognized AI marker. This is metadata cleanup, not removal of a logo drawn in an animation. Malformed or trailing blocks are refused; inspection allows 8,192 blocks, 131,072 sub-blocks and 4 MiB of scanned metadata.
TIFF: the cleaner checks supported descriptive fields, generator software, XMP, IPTC, the C2PA tag, selected EXIF fields and GPS directories. Selected entries are removed from their directories and their stored values are cleared in place. Encoded strips or tiles, multipage links, image SubIFDs, orientation, ICC profiles and rendering tags remain. TIFF downloads usually keep their original size. Unknown tags and Photoshop resource blocks are retained; this is not a complete purge of every possible private TIFF field.
Classic TIFF and BigTIFF support both byte orders. Overlapping/shared ranges, cyclic directories, old JPEG pointer layouts, free-block layouts, DNG and unsupported structures are refused. Inspection allows 128 directories, 8,192 total entries, 1 MiB per scanned metadata value and 4 MiB of scanned metadata. TIFF preview depends on your browser; an unavailable preview does not prevent supported local inspection and cleaning. Every image still has the 25 MiB file limit.
Keep the original, select Images, inspect the file, choose the metadata categories, then clean and download the verified result. See the image-checking guide and our preservation test method.
AVIF and HEIC metadata cleaning
For supported still AVIF and HEIC files, the cleaner reads recognized C2PA and XMP boxes, plus EXIF and uncompressed XMP metadata items stored locally in the container. It clears selected records without changing the encoded image, color properties, transparency, orientation or file offsets. The download can remain the same size because cleared metadata space stays in the file.
Removal applies to a whole selected record, including any ordinary fields inside it. Animated sequences, protected items, compressed metadata, external item data and unsupported location layouts are rejected. Generic HEIF containers without a supported HEIC brand are outside this workflow. The image limit is 25 MiB.
Follow the AVIF and HEIC metadata-removal guide for steps, browser-preview limits and verification details.
PNG prompts, workflows and compressed metadata
The PNG cleaner inspects ordinary text, compressed text and international text chunks, including compressed international text. It recognizes supported provenance and generator markers in decoded values, plus exact prompt and workflow metadata keys. These keys describe generation parameters; their presence alone does not prove AI authorship.
AI-only removal drops a whole selected text chunk. Ordinary comments and other unselected chunks stay byte-identical, and image data is not decoded or recompressed. A selected chunk can contain ordinary information alongside a supported marker.
Parsed PNG generator-bearing fields also recognize names including ComfyUI, AUTOMATIC1111, InvokeAI and Fooocus. A product name in an ordinary title or comment is not treated as a generator field merely because the text also mentions software. Detection depends on the actual stored field and value; it does not cover every exporter or prove AI authorship.
To keep browser work bounded, inspection allows up to 1 MiB of decoded text per chunk, 4 MiB of decoded text across the file, 1 MiB of compressed input per text chunk and 4,096 chunks. Files exceeding these limits, or containing malformed text metadata or damaged compressed text, are refused instead of receiving an incomplete clean result. This does not remove visible marks or watermarks embedded in pixels.
